Mommy Lessons: Registering

Last night my good friend Cheryl (aka my Mommy guru) and I went to BuyBuyBaby for her to take me around the store and show me what things I needed to have to make sure we were ready for the arrival of Baby Boy Malic. She was a HUGE help, I was able to ask her a ton of questions about what she likes using or things that I didn't need etc. I was really interested in what brands she likes using because there are so many reviews out there and I prefer to trust people I know over random internet reviews. Heck, if she can raise such a cute little girl, she must know what she is talking about!! Here are some of the things I learned (lets just hope I don't forget it all when registering!!)

- Certain items are cheaper at Target than Babies R Us or BuyBuyBaby (example: bath towels and diaper cream etc)
- The breast pump and all of the accessories was mind blowing! I would have never known what to get
- If you have a winter newborn getting a cover for the carseat to keep them warm is a must
- Register for a variety of sizes for clothes so that you have some when the baby gets bigger
- If you can prevent it and plan on having more than 1 baby, don't skimp on the crib, get something durable
- If you are unsure about something, just register for it and if you don't get it and end up needing it, when you purchase it you can get a discount since it was on your registry
- Some of the things they sell are just insane (i.e. this motorized bouncy seat which looks like a carnival ride to me...it freaked me out!)
- It is important to actually "test drive" the stroller around the store to get a feel for how it handles

I will keep you all posted on how registering actually goes but thanks to Cheryl, I feel much better about tackling the baby registry!

Vacay Part 2: I'm on a boat

One of the days on vacation we rented a boat for 4 hours and drove along the inner coastal. The little man inside of me definitely had a slightly bumpy ride at times. We saw a lot dolphins and even stopped to grab some ice cream at a really cute shop. We stopped at a sandbar for awhile and swam around while Sean collected some huge sea shells.

(There aren't a ton of pictures of Louis cause he was in charge of the camera but I swear in the next post I will add some of him)

Vacay Part 1

Last week we spent the week in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Unti family are no strangers to this place (I believe it was our 5th time there and 7th time in South Carolina). We stayed on the Sea Pines Resort on the South Beach side.

Weather: HUMID, and average of high 80's to 90's

Here are just a few pictures Louis took (more to come in future posts)

One Year Later

Louis and I have officially been married for over one year! Time flies, but to be honest we both agreed that it feels like we have been husband and wife for a lot longer than one year. Since we knew that we would spend our actual wedding anniversary driving home from vacation with my parents we decided to celebrate slightly early while on vacation. Louis arranged for us to go on a sunset dinner cruise around the inner coastal. It was a lot of fun and relaxing to just get away. The only bummer was I couldn't officially toast our anniversary.

It's a .............

This morning Louis and I had an ultrasound to see how the baby was developing and growing and to find out if Baby Malic was a boy or girl. We asked the ultrasound tech to write what we were having on this cute card that Katie helped us create. Then when Louis and I got home, Louis opened the card and showed it to me.

BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first picture above the baby is arching back (we have a very active baby!) The second picture the baby was ready for a picture to be taken!
Most importantly the baby is measuring perfectly and growing as expected. Now we need to start getting baby boy stuff for the house!

Deck Take 2

Last summer Louis and I decided that our deck needed some serious TLC. The wood had never been treated and since the deck isn't covered with the association it was up to us to keep it nice and not rotting. So last summer Louis pressure washed the deck and then stained/sealed it. It looked great. Unfortunately since the wood had never been treated it sucked all of the stain/seal and was looking pretty crappy again, not to mention the deck gets direct sunlight for pretty much the entire day. We decided that we needed basically re-do the deck again to ensure that it would last. We headed back to the Home Depot and bought more stain and Louis got to work :)

This is the before pic, and while its a little difficult to tell you can still see how the wood is discolored and uneven from the sun and elements taking a beating on the poor wood. I forgot to take an after picture but lets just say it looks a thousand times better! Now if we can just get rid of the wasps on the deck we will be in business.

Mr. DePaul MBA's

Yesterday marked the last day of grad school for both Louis and James. Assuming they pass this last class then they will both have DePaul MBA's. Even though they put in about a third of the effort I did (sorry I had to take that jab), it is still a big accomplishment and deserves a blog shout out. Not to mention not having to pay for school anymore is AWESOME!

In case you wanted some more detail around their grad school journey here it is:

They both took all of the exact same classes. There was only one class that James and Louis took separately (due to me not allowing Louis to enroll in the summer class during our wedding/honeymoon). They were in every group project together they could be in (i.e. the only times they weren't is when the professor picked the groups). They will have the exact same degree with the same concentration and I am pretty sure their GPA is extremely close-- if not identical. I blame this last part mostly on the fact that most professors probably had no clue wh0 was wh0 and was forced to give them the same grades.

Ya, I know, they are weird, but I love them both (in different ways of course!).

Congrats Louis and James!
