When Unti's and Malic's Combine Forces

At the end of day 1 of the floor installation the construction crew told us we needed to take up more flooring in the kitchen. That left us a few short hours to accomplish all this work so of course I called in backup, just as any good supervisor would! Luckily my family rocks and lives close by and came over to jump in. We definitely needed their help, especially since we found way more mold and had a thousand staples to pound in. We were able to clean up the floors and can't wait to see the finish product.

The boys working ( I wasn't allowed to do anything...)

Not the most flattering shot of my mom-- haha sorry!
Oh and those spots in the picture is the DUST in the air-- GROSS

Something most have been really important!
Also, special shoutout to Sean for staying at our house while the crew works on the floors. Thanks Bud!!

Countdown to new floors!

The flooring guys come tomorrow and we are beyond excited. It's really annoying to walk around your house with shoes on all the time. I can't wait to see how the new floors transform the place. Tonight we also bought a dimmer at Ace for the dining room light and that will be the next fun project for the handy hubby.

Stay tuned for the before and after pics!

My Last 24 Hours

On Friday night at about 2am the power went out. I wasn't too concerned since the power usually comes back on within an hour or so (except no power= no air conditioning). In the morning when we still had no power we found out that a transformer blew and we didn't get power back until 4:30pm! That meant that our plans for ShopVac fun around our house didn't happen.

Last night we took a break from the no power and floor demo to go to Matt and Mary's housewarming party. It was lots of fun and filled with IWU peeps.

Mary and I assembled the ladder golf, we were very proud of our work!

For some reason there were like a million guys just standing on the driveway

Ahola Friday's

Louis' company has this really great concept called Ahola Friday's where on certain Friday's throughout the summer they get half days without having to take PTO. While I think that is great for him, I am quite jealous. I would love to be sitting outside or lounging at James' pool (that is where Louis is right now....). More companies need to start thinking Ahola Friday, or Louis and I can win the lotto and have Ahola Friday everyday! So all of you should join me (except for you teachers out there who get the whole summer off) in being mega jealous of my husband right now.

M-O-L-D

Yep, thats right, mold! Last night when Louis was tearing out our kitchen floors (with my help, aka supervision) we found some mold on the wood floorboards. We used bleach on it to clean it up but our kitchen still has an awful smell and is now giving me headaches. We will be doing round 2 of cleaning to try and remove all smells. If anyone has suggestions or recommendations on how to best get rid of it-- I am all ears!

My Handy Hubby

Some of you may know that Louis and I are getting new floors installed next week. In preparation for this fun event, we have to rip up the flooring ourselves (aka Louis does the work while I supervise!). I am super excited to post the before and after pics but here is a sneak peek at my handy hubby, I am not sure how he feels about the new nickname, but I am digging it.

Ripping out the tile. Demo can be a great stress relief!

Summer Walks

Louis and I love taking walks in our neighborhood when the weather cooperates. Our neighborhood has lots of kids and families outside so its great motivation to turn off the TV and get outside. I decided to take my camera on tonight's walk since we take the exact same route each time (not very creative, we know!).

Our courtyard outside our front door

I tried getting the sun through the trees but I am not very savvy with the camera

The nice big sidewalks in our neighborhood

This is geese poop alley-- we definitely have to watch our step

Mondays....

Here are a few of my random Monday thoughts:

1. The new McDonalds smoothies (strawberry banana), yummy!!!
2. I kinda hate Katie and Eric for being in Hawaii-- the pictures make me super jealous. If you want to join in the hatin' check out her blog (the link is on the right). I also need them to come back cause I miss them!!
3. I had an identity crisis today, my boss emailed us and had tasks for each of us with our initials next to who was responsible and I thought I didn't have to do anything until....oh wait, my initials aren't JU but rather JM!!! It literally took me 5 mins to figure this out!!
4. I feel a little guilty that Louis is taking up our floors right now and I am watching the Bachelorette and blogging.

Our 1 month anniversary

Some of you my find it totally cheesy but Louis and I were excited to celebrate our one month anniversary today. I cannot believe its already been a month. Our original plan was to have a whole day together doing stuff that was themed around our wedding but since we are getting new floors in a week we had some chores to do first. Sean came over and helped us move furniture (thanks little bro!). Our living room now has a blanket on the floor and a folding chair in front of the tv. Louis and I are actually having fun with it because it's reminding us of our first month in our new house before we had real furniture. Anyways... since we wanted to do something wedding themed we decided to get dinner at the Public House (the location of our wedding shower). We also cut into our wedding cake, mainly because I think the idea of eating year old cake is gross but figured I could handle month old cake. It was actually really tasty still!! (Don't worry Mom and James, there is still some for you).

I love you Louis, happy 1 month!!!

Happy Anniversary Mr and Mrs Gutzmer

I can't believe that one year ago today Amy and Graham got married, time flies! Congrats to both of you, we love you and here is to many more years together.

Visiting Flossmoor

Louis and I spent the first part of this weekend down on the south side (aka Flossmoor). It was nice to get to relax and spend time as an official Malic, in the Malic household. We had steak on the new grill and made a fire in the new fire pit. Here are some pics!

St. Lucia Honeymoon

For our honeymoon we went to St. Lucia (located in the West Indies). We stayed at the Sandals Regency. We absolutely loved it. Our start of our honeymoon was just as crazy with Mother Nature as our wedding had been (it must have been a theme for us, we have joked we need to name our first child either Rain or Storm). We landed in St. Lucia and it was pouring rain, to which we had to walk outside to get off the plane. I did not wear the right shoes to run in the rain!! Everyday it rained, some days more than others but it was not a wash out and actually helped keep the extreme heat at bay. We did lots of fun things, snorkeling, visiting a volcano, seeing the waterfalls, taking a rainforest skyride and ocean kayaking (I saw a sea turtle but Louis didn't so I am pretty sure he is convinced I didn't see it). We took over 300 pictures of our trip but below are my favorite.

Our Wedding

I am sure that by now most of you have heard Louis and I's crazy weather wedding day story. For those of you not familiar, here is the quick version. The day started off sunny and beautiful, which lends itself well to an outdoor ceremony. The weather had predicted a 30% chance of rain, but I wasn't too concerned by just looking out the window. Around 3pm the girls and I were ready and went outside to take some pictures before the ceremony. Outside was definitely super humid and hot!! My poor hair!! We started to notice that the sky was starting to get really black and I began to get concerned. Within a matter of minutes the sun had disappeared and the sky was looking like Mother Nature had other plans for our ceremony. I was prepared to have an indoor ceremony so again, still not super concerned at this point. We barely got back inside when the storm hit, and I barely got off the elevator when the power went out in the hotel (poor Mary was stuck in the elevator, she was a trooper though!!). Without power for about two hours in the hotel we were forced to have the ceremony in our reception room while guests sat at their tables (thanks to a power cord from the building next door). In the end Louis and I got married, and the wedding was only off schedule about one hour. The night ended up being memorable to say the least. And, not only did I hear that it's good luck if it rains on your wedding day, but the harder the rain, the more money you are blessed with. I am guessing with that kind of storm Louis and I are going to be rich!!!!

Here are some pictures I have stolen from my friends and family. Enjoy!
